Operations manager

In charge of installation safety, machine performance control as well as compensation and support measures monitoring

Chargé d'exploitation - H2air

Once the wind turbines are commissioned, the operations managers take over from the developers during the life of the wind farm. Thereby, Olivier Karcher has been working in the operations subsidiary of the H2air group since 2014. He was joined in 2016 by Pierre-Edouard Lesot, who chose wind power for his professional retraining. Former maintenance technician, Mourad Jebli has been strengthening H2air GT since October 2017. Susana Calderon joined the team in 2019 after her work-study program. Proactivity, listening and proximity are the key words of the team.

What is the role of H2air GT?

H2air GT is entrusted by the owners of the wind farms with the safety of the installations, the control of the performance of the machines, the resale of the electricity, the management of the leases, or even the follow-up of the compensation and support provided for in the authorization order. The regulations prescribe various monitoring in terms of the environment, noise, industrial waste, etc., of which we are the guarantors. The operations department is thereby the point of contact for INERIS and the DREAL. We can be approached by local elected officials, farmers or local residents to examine complaints.

What do your assignments consist of?

On an industrial site listed as ICPE (Installation Classified for the Protection of the Environment), our priority is compliance with safety rules, which we guarantee to State services, emergency services, our service providers who work on parks, and of course our customers. We supervise the interventions of inspection bodies, turbine manufacturers maintenance teams, design offices and network managers such as Enedis. The H2air group does not necessarily own the parks operated by its subsidiary. H2air GT represents the interests of wind farm operators. We establish regular reports to the owners, by producing monthly reports of production, performance, wind resource and possible shutdowns. We check the contractual guarantee by comparing the power curve and the availability of the wind turbine. Acoustic restraints lead to production losses whose compliance with the restraint plan must be checked. We perform monthly and semi-annual inspections by machine; we then make observations to the turbine manufacturers for correction and to the owners for information.

How is your job evolving?

Our business evolves in step with technological advances and regulatory changes. We follow continuous training in safety, working at height and first aid. The turbine manufacturers also regularly update their models and we must train ourselves in their specificities. Each wind farm is unique. Environmental monitoring rules are increasingly strict, in the interest of local residents and respect for biodiversity. Our profession is exciting and it recruits more and more, notice to amateurs!
